About Us

Here at Surplus and Outdoors we have over 50 years of retail experience, specialising in New and Used Army surplus from all over the world, Camping Equipment, Army Militaria and Work wear.

The shop is open from 8.00am until 5.00pm. Early closing on Saturday Approx 3.00pm

How to find us for click and collect? We are located at 38 Comberton Hill, Kidderminster DY10 1QN, opposite the Severn Valley Railway. If when approaching Kidderminster, you follow the brown tourist signs with either a steam train on or 'Severn Valley Railway' you will find us! Parking is available on the road for a limited time or the station has a car park (pay and display).

How do I purchase goods?
We have made buying from Surplus and Outdoors as simple as possible.

Our website is totally secure and is open 24 hours a day! Our shopping basket will store the items you have placed within it for up to four hours. Each item for sale will have an add to basket button. When you press the checkout button you are taken to the order processing page where the item will be automatically added to your basket. To view items in the shopping basket and amend them accordingly simply click on the 'checkout' section.


If you would like to click and collect - please choose the "collect from store" option at the checkout page - this will remove any postage costs applied - We will then call you or email you once your order is ready for collection, we can then agree a suitable day and time to collect your order from us. Also you can call us on 01562 863463 during office hours if you do not wish to order online.


When shopping online you can input how many of each items you would like, decide to continue shopping, remove an item from the basket or check-out and place your secure order. It is at this time you would be asked for your name and address and then your credit card details if the shop has online authorisation. This information will be stored in a 'cookie' on your computer. We will not store any such information on our system, in order to protect your privacy. The only details we cannot store are your credit card details.



What is Army Surplus?

Well if Army Surplus is a new word for you let us try to explain a little what it actually is. Genuine Army Military Surplus is an item, for example Goretex Coat, other textile or hardware item such as an ammo box, which has been used or unused and is no longer required by a particular Military Company or Military unit. Items are usually used and graded stock, sometimes new, so may have marks, scuffs etc. We do specialise in alot of new army surplus this is where the item has still been disposed of from the military, but has never been worn or used and may still have the odd storage mark. A used graded jacket for example, may have been laundered by The Military before disposal, so some waterproof items such as Goretex Trousers or coats may need reproofing before they reach their full potential. We can truly say that Army surplus nowadays gives you great value for money as normally items are made under contracts with many high end branded named companies but are never allowed to advertise their logo or brand on Military gear. Some army Surplus items, graded or new, may have names, tags badges sewn or written on too, but this does not effect the wear or use of the item purchased. Is my transaction secure?


Every online transaction made within Surplus & Outdoors is transmitted across the internet using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. This industry standard method ensures that information sent from your browser is scrambled whilst in transit and decoded when it arrives on our server. You are far safer using your credit card within Surplus & Outdoors than you are in a restaurant in your local high street. We take the issue of security very seriously and have taken every step possible to protect you. Our servers sit behind a state of the art hardware firewall and the computer that handles the card services is a bastion host of the ishop mall servers, and not accessible from the internet. We have employed the services of one of the countries leading security experts who regularly monitors and updates our systems.

What if I have problems ordering?


Common reasons for problems when pressing the order button are:
i) You are using an old browser that doesn't support SSL encryption.
ii) You are browsing from behind a corporate firewall that will not allow secure connections. Speak to the system administrator at your office. They will either fix the problem or you will have to order from another location. To check, point your browser to https://www.microsoft.com/ if you cannot connect to the Microsoft secure server it is likely that one of the above faults apply.

What if I do not receive my goods?


Normally, you should receive your goods within 2-3 working days, but please allow 7 working days for your goods to arrive. (except bank holidays). If you do not receive your goods after within this period of time, please contact us at [email protected] with your order number to hand. This number will be included in the e-mail you received when you ordered the goods from our shop. We will strive to resolve the issue immediately. If you have ordered heavier/bulkier items, this will have been dispatched via ParcelForce courier. If you are unavailable at time of delivery a card will be left. If you (The Customer) have requested that the parcel be left in a safe place, this is at your own risk, if the parcel has gone missing that has been left by Royal Mail or the courier we are unable to refund you for missing items. If you have not received your order within 2 working days please contact us for tracking details, if collection of a parcel is arranged by you at your own cost because of non delivery or a depot problem, then any costs incurred will not be paid by us, we will be able to contact the courier to arrange delivery for a more convenient time. Please note the courier will only keep undelivered parcels for a limited period, after this they will then be returned to us, if you wish a returned order to be resent it will be subject to an additional return postage cost.

When is my credit card debited?


Your card will be debited when the goods are dispatched, an authorisation takes place when you place your order. This simply guarantees that the funds are available on your card and that payment will be made to us. This authorisation remains valid for ten days. When the goods are dispatched, we will debit funds from your account overnight directly into our own. If certain items in your order are out of stock or unobtainable we will only partially debit your card order. We are also able to cancel or refund individual items of your order should this become necessary.

What happens if my card authorisation fails?


If the authorisation fails, the most likely explanation is that you have input your card details incorrectly. If this happens press the back button on your browser and you will be returned to the card input page. Check that all the details are correct, and make any changes necessary before proceeding. If all the details are correct and you still fail to get an authorisation then we advise that you contact your card issuer to establish why your card was not authorised. We will receive your order anyway and may contact you to arrange for alternative methods of payment.

What risks are involved in buying online?


All personal data,including your card number is transmitted over secure connections meaning that no-one can capture your details. In addition to this,your card details are not viewable by us at all, they are simply transmitted over the bank's private X25 network for authorisation and payment transactions. You are protected because the transaction was carried out as 'Cardholder not present.' This means that any payments will be refunded to your card should it be used fraudulently by someone else or you do not receive what you ordered.

Stock & Stock Levels


Most of the items we offer for sale on this site are usually in stock. But If for any reason we cannot supply you with any part of your order we will contact you via email or phone to advise you. We may need to cancel or refund the item from your order, in which case the funds will be paid directly back into your account. As we sell many items which are army surplus, please note these are purchased at own risk as items may not have material labels for identification and have not been tested in any way.

Postage and Packaging

We guarantee all of our products to be as described and free from defects. If however you receive a product which you feel is not as described, please email or call us within 14 days of purchase at [email protected] to arrange an exchange or refund of goods. Sorry we are unable to accept returns of socks or under garments with header cards removed 

If you are purchasing any item/s for a Christmas gift then we offer 14 working days after Christmas to get the item back to us for an exchange or refund, please put a note in the delivery note sections saying xmas gift

Please quote your order number which can be found on your original email conformation. We aim to replace any defective items with replacements. If this is not possible we shall refund your money immediately. 

Please note if you are off the UK Mainland, or Highlands this includes Northern Ireland etc. or if you have a post code of IM, ZE, HS TR 21-25, AB31-56 FK17-21 IV1-IV54, KA27,28, KW1-KW17, PA20-PA78, PH19-PH50, PO30-PO41, please be aware that there is an greater shipping cost or that you will be contacted for extra postage costs for the goods to be sent to you if they are heavy / bulky or contain a bladed items and need to be sent by carrier or require age verification, as the goods will cost a little more to get to you, these items are exempt from postage offers ....Thank you

Exchanged items will only be sent after we have received the defective item back from you in the original condition it was sent. please consult our contact details for the return address.

Next day delivery orders can be made over the phone on 01562 863464 but must be received before 12 noon and is only available Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays and Christmas). Next day is only available to Mainland UK residents. For the Channel Islands, Scottish Isles please contact us for costs. Highland regions please contact us for prices as couriers charges start from £15 (orders over 2kg) Please be aware we're closed on wednesday so no next day deliveries will leave us.

Standard postage costs are priced at £5.99 for Royal Mail post either First Class or Tracked 48, £5.99 for ParcelForce 24 and £9.95 for big heavy boxes depending on item(s)weight. Next day available, please contact us for a price as depends on item ordered. Please check that you have chosen the correct delivery method, we are not responsible for delivery order errors, your order will be processed according to the method that you have chosen.

Please complete the delivery details correctly, we are not responsible for loss of incorrectly addressed orders. Please check your confirmation email carefully and notify us immediately of any errors.
Please note that goods left by customers request (by either Mail or courier) are done so at the customers own risk. We will not refund or resend any goods that have gone missing if they have been asked to leave in a safe place.

Special order items: Goods that have been ordered in bulk or as a special order / 3rd party cannot be returned / refunded please ensure that you have the correct item before ordering. If previously ordered please contact us to ensure the item has not changed manufacturer or specifications

Overseas Orders

Please Note that we are a UK based Shop - We normally send goods overseas at our discretion, at cost price to us, but please note when we allow an order to be placed you will have to wait to be contacted within a few working days of placing the order with the new total cost including any additional shipping costs, once we have weighed the goods ordered and added the additional shipping charges. The delivery/packing cost will be added to the cost of the original order and you will be contacted with a total cost including the delivery charge, Please note your card issuer / bank may charge you additional costs for purchasing goods from overseas companies which is not our responsibility. Please also note you can place an order online and have it sent to a UK delivery address or UK forwarding depot at no extra charge. When overseas is switched on please place the order online and choose your country from the country choice in the checkout page, when listed. We CAN also send goods to BFPO addresses, these orders are now classed as international post, so will incur an additional charge according to Royal Mail/ParcelForce charges. Please note at busy times orders placed with an overseas card address can take up to 2 weeks to process, due to checking card holder address etc. Thank You.

When placing an order online please make sure your delivery address is totally correct as once the order is processed we are unable to amend any delivery details this end and will be sent to the address supplied by yourself on the order submitted to us, we are not responsible for any incomplete or incorrect delivery address details, and no refund will be given for lost/missing parcels sent to an address that was miss typed or was missing information.

Overseas shipping is available - please order online. Overseas orders are taking much longer to reach there county of destination please expect a delivery time of 2/3 weeks after shipping, some countries are delaying parcels for over a month in "custom checks" this is totally beyond our control.

Returns Policy


We guarantee all of our new products to be as described and free from defects. This does not apply to used army surplus items, Clothing or Boots. If you do receive a product which you feel is not as described,please email us at [email protected] or call 01562 863464 with any discrepancies you may have and to arrange an exchange or refund. We are not responsible for damage caused by misuse or general wear of items or items which have not been looked after and treated to keep maintained if needed. Items returned to us and deemed to have been misused or used and returned will, either be returned to the customer at customers cost or require additional payment.


If you are purchasing products for a Christmas gift or present we allow 14 working days after Christmas to return any items for a refund or exchange if they are not suitable.

Please quote your order number which can be found on your original email conformation. We aim to replace any defective items with replacements. (excluding items that have been mis-used/general wear or special orders) If this is not possible we shall refund your money immediately. Sorry we are unable to refund any postage costs of any goods returned to us for a refund if you have had the goods for over 7 days.

Orders returned to us after 7 days and over the value of £40 will incur a restocking charge of 15% of the original order, this is to recover costs involved in processing the returned goods.

Orders returned to us after 14 working days will not be eligible for a refund and only a credit will be offered for the goods. We will still offer exchanges on items at our discretion please contact us to arrange. We will also charge a restocking fee of 15% if the order has been cancelled for no reason or if the goods have been returned to us for any reason such as you do not like the colour or you have changed your mind etc... any credit issued less any restocking fee will be valid for 12 months from date of return.

If goods are returned to us within 7 working days in the condition that you have received them from us then a refund will be issued for the goods that were sent back, this can take up to 2 weeks to process but please note no restocking fee is applicable if you are sending back faulty goods or damaged goods and we will pay your postage costs upto the value of £6.95 to send the goods back to us if the item is faulty in any way. We ask that you send any goods back by the cheapest method possible unless otherwise agreed beforehand with Surplus and Outdoors.


If you are missing any items for your order and have not been notified of a shortage or delay, please contact us within 3 working days.

Exchanged items will only be sent after we have received the defective / incorrect size item back from you in the original condition it was sent (ie unused and/or unwashed). We are also happy to exchange goods that are unsuitable or the wrong size, although we will charge additional postage and packing at the standard rate. Please consult our contact details for the return address.

All returns must be in their original condition in original boxes were appropriate, wrapped (in plastic or paper) and packaged securely. For example footwear must be in the box and then the box wrapped in plastic or paper with the return address written on, not just in the box with the address on as this cannot be resold as new. Items incorrectly returned will be liable for a restocking fee to cover costs. If you are unsure on how to package an item please contact us for advice
